slayeroffice - web experiments gone horribly awry

Looking for the drawings? They're over here, and my drawing blog is this way.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • How many people work on this site?
  • Just one.
  • How long have you been doing web stuff, and where did you get your start?
  • I've been messing around with the web since about '97. My friend Dean and I were writing shareware at the time for Win3.1/95 and we figured one of us should figure out how to build a web site for our "company". At the time, I didn't even own a modem. Dean wrote the first version of the site and then I designed a new one which was about a mile long, complete with an over abundance of animated GIFs and little to no design consistancy between pages. Everything was centered, too. I believe it even played a MIDI of "Take the "A" Train". It was awesome. One thing led to another, and I've not written a legitimate piece of Windows software in years.
  • What do you do all day long?
  • I work for AOL. Hate them if you must, but it's a hell of a laid back place to work for. I've been there since '99 and have enjoyed the majority of my time there.
  • slayeroffice? what the hell is that? does it have anything to do with Buffy?
  • No, no, a thousand times no. It has absolutely nothing to do with Buffy, and everything to do with the band. The name of the site is derived from the host name of my unix workstation, slayer.office.aol.com, which had a better ring to it than blackflag.office.aol.com.
  • So, I guess you're some kind of old school skate rat, metal head, punk rock guy or something then?
  • Guilty.
  • Can I use your stuff on my site?
  • You certainly can. All I ask is that you leave any code notices in tact, maybe let me know that you're using it, and give a link back if you are so inclined. Basically - give credit where credit is due and we'll be fine. See my Creative Commons License.
  • I emailed you about something and you never got back to me!
  • I highly recommend that you use my feedback form to get in touch with me. My slayeroffice address gets a TON of spam, and if the email lacks a subject or looks even remotely like spam, it gets deleted.
  • I used your feedback form to contact you and you never got back to me!
  • If I didn't get back to you, I apologize. Chances are you were asking me to help you with something that I simply didn't have the time for, or you were asking me to do your homework for you. Either way, please don't take it personally - I, like you, am very busy most of the time.
  • I'd like to see feature X added to application Y. Can you do that?
  • Most likely, yes. Most of the better enhancements to existing stuff have been at the suggestion of users. Be sure to include your name and your site when you ask about it, as I'll want to link to you as a credit for the idea. However, if I don't implement your request, don't take it personally.
  • If I send you something I wrote, will you host it on slayeroffice?
  • No, I won't. And not because I don't like it -- I dont want anyone confusing your hard work with my own. If I like it a whole lot, I might link to it, but I'm afraid slayeroffice is a repository for my work.
  • Why are some of the the experiments listed in gray?
  • Because they are very, very old and are listed only for historical purposes. I, like you, am always in the process of learning. There was a time when I was of the impression that the way these things had been written was the best way, but times and technologies change. Please don't use or take anything listed as gray seriously! It's too old!
